Givercraft: A MinecraftEdu training course for teachers

For my Practicum in Virtual Teaching and Learning I will be facilitating a MinecraftEdu experience for teachers and students based on the book, “The Giver”, by Lois Lowry.  The experience is called “Givercraft” and I was one of the original designers of the experience last fall (2014).  There are a handful of teachers who have returned to Givercraft this year and my primary role will be to assist teachers to prepare for the experience which will take place from November 2 – 20, 2015.

This will be the third iteration of Givercraft and we will incorporate the lessons we have learned from the previous experiences of teachers and their students.  The initial step will be to examine the most recent experience that took place this past spring (2015) and to consider what changes if any will need to be made.  A registration form will go out to teachers and once they are registered, we will begin preparing them and their students for this experience.

It is encouraging to see that teachers are returning to Givercraft and I hope they will bring their knowledge and past experiences to help others facilitate a meaningful learning environment for their students.  I am very excited to see how teachers will change and facilitate their own Givercraft experiences and I look forward to seeing the student products that are created!!

Stay tuned for more updates on this journey!
